I plan to color this. I scribbled this at work, took a pic in too-low light again, and it ended up gray, so I had to re-ink this in Sai Paint. That's why the lines are all wobbly, since my hand isn't as steady when I use my tablet pen as it is when I use pen and ink on paper.
But I like Ethel, buck teeth and all. I'm not really "glamorizing" her by taking away her buck teeth or giving her a fuller mouth or bigger eyes, I like her the way she is, although perhaps with cuter hair. This is how I visualize her character.
Ethel Muggs. Colored version soon to follow. I like putting more fan art of this character out on the 'Net, she deserves her due.

I do think that the Archie artists draw Ethel in a rather exaggerated way (of course, as it is a comics
). Just bcoz she is the 'Ugly girl' does not mean she cannot buy lipstick! Her lips are drawn differently from the other female characters' lips. I want to draw Ethel as she would look as a real person, though keeping her distinct features. I maintain that Ethel's character is SUPPOSED to be 'ugly', and a real person with those features (buck teeth, thin lips etc) would look way different. I want to do justice to Ethel.
